An interface that helps nurses and doctors do two things at once.
We were asked to redesign the architecture and interface of a two-part medical device (PDA and sample reader) that measures blood analytes from a fresh sample at or near the patient.
The core functionality involves running diagnostic tests on a blood sample while the user (e.g. nurses, perfusionists, respiratory therapists) enters other data needed to generate accurate results (e.g. the patient’s age and weight).
Removing confusion and making the process efficient were the primary goals.
The test process was designed to carefully lead inexperienced users along while also not interfering with the work of users who are well-versed in the system.
